Sustainability Planning Services for Higher Education Institutions
The California Community Colleges Sustainability Plan Template is a roadmap and toolkit designed to guide the CCC Districts toward a sustainable future. Created by Newcomb Anderson McCormick in partnership with Citrus College, the CCC Chancellor’s Office, and the California Energy Commission, the Template Plan features customizable tools to allow CCC Districts to develop and implement sustainability goals unique to each campus. The Template is comprehensive and addresses contemporary sustainability challenges, allowing campuses to become more environmentally, fiscally, and socially sustainable.
In our role as the Program Administration and Management Consultant for the CCC/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership, NAM conceived the concept for the Sustainability Template in 2011 in response to Community College system needs to address state mandates for greenhouse gas emissions reductions and the desire of colleges to become more sustainable. NAM helped secure a California Energy Commission (CEC) grant to fund the development of the Template and worked closely with the Chancellor's Office and Citrus CCD in its creation, and successfully completed its Pilot Demonstration at Citrus College in 2012. Based on the success of this initiative, the Sustainability Template received the first annual District Leadership Award in Energy & Sustainability from the CCC Board of Governors in 2013.
Following the successful completion of the Pilot Demonstration of the Template at Citrus College, NAM has assisted several Community College Districts with using the Template to develop their own Sustainability Plans, including San Mateo Community College District and Rancho Santiago Community College District. NAM has also provided valuable assistance, advice, and guidance to other Districts using the Template to improve their sustainability including Rancho Santiago CCD, Feather River CCD, MiraCosta College, Cabrillo College, and Sonoma County CCD.
